THE long-awaited move by part of BNFL to Daresbury Park has finally taken place after months of discussion.

The firm has relocated its corporate centre from Risley to the new premises beside the M56 and Daresbury Park Hotel.

The 40,000 sq ft site will house 200 staff from a host of departments including IT, property, communications, human resources, legal and finance.

Previously the divisions are spread over a number of different office sites at Risley.

Peter O'Donnell of BNFL said: "We were attracted to Daresbury Park because of the high standard and quality of the buildings and are delighted with our new corporate centre, which portrays the right image for us.

"It's easily accessible for all our staff and provides an ideal working environment."

Following concerns expressed by Warrington North MP Helen Jones though, about the nuclear giant moving part of its operation out of the borough, BNFL bosses have been quick to reaffirm their commitment to their traditional home in Risley.

Daresbury Park is fast becoming one of the most talked-about business parks in the north west.

Andy Lavin, director of Daresbury Park Developments Limited, said: "We believe the park's success is due to its strategic location, immediately on junction 11 of the M56, and the high quality products available."

The park, which is already home to 300-strong asset management firm Eutech and the De Vere hotel and leisure chain, has planning consent for 1.6 million square feet.

It will soon have a new near-neighbour, as work is progressing well on the £9 million Daresbury Science Park, off Keckwick Lane, backed by the Northwest Development Agency.
