A FAMILY whose four-year-old daughter was among British holidaymakers at a Spanish hotel struck down by a severe stomach bug have spoken about their "holiday hell".

Aimee Critchley, four, of Newton-le-Willows, became ill with the cryptosporidium bug, the symptoms of which include severe diarrhoea, sickness, stomach cramps and fever.

She was taken on holiday to the Spanish resort, with mum Natalie, dad Ian, and 10-year-old sister Katie, who has also become ill since they returned home.

The toddler was among hundreds of holidaymakers staying at the Alcudia Pins in Majorca who suffered illness. The bug is a waterborne parasite and it is suspected the hospital pool was the source.

It's been a nightmare

Tests back home have confirmed Aimee and Katie have the bug. Dad, Ian, 35, was also ill with diarrhoea and stomach pains but his tests have come back negative.

Now the Critchleys plan to sue the holiday firm in the cmpany of other families. Mum, Natalie, said: "She was really bad with projectile vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps. It was particularly upsetting because she was too ill to go to her last few days of nursery back home .

The 32-year-old added: "It has been a holiday nightmare. There have been whole families and children in hospital who have not been able to come home.

"Because of the bug, environmental health have been out to ask us lots of questions. It's horrible having to go through all this.

"We went away on another short break since we came home, but the kids have still been ill so that was ruined too."
