THE Runcorn Jets Rookie team were in the Lake District in the annual President's Day baseball tournament. Manchester Saints and Netherley Road Hats also took part against hosts Cartmel Valley Lions.

The first game for the Jets was against the Red Hats. In the first innings the Jets scored eight with good solid batting from Dean, Rachel, Jordan and last batter Calvin who once again hit a monster home run.

The Red Hats replied with nine runs mainly due to a couple of errors in the Jets' outfield.

In the second innings the Jets once again scored eight with the help of Craig, Glen and Melissa.

The Red Hats only managed to score seven due to great catches from Rachel and Glen.

As the Jets started the final innings, the score was tied 16-16 and the pressure was on.

Nine of the Jets batters managed to get home and with a great strike from Joel advancing some of the team around the diamond, the Red Hats now needed to get all 10 batters home to win the game.

The Jets, full of confidence, produced some of their best ever fielding this year with a great catch and double play from first baseman Dean and fine stops from the outfield positions held the Red Hats to only five runs being scored. Final score Runcorn Jets 25 Netherley Red Hats 21.

The second game that the Jets had was against Cartmel Valley Lions, the holders of the Frank Caunce Trophy, the equivalent of Footballs FA cup, this was going to be a difficult game.

In the first innings the Jets started well scoring seven with the help from the team's pitcher Ryan, however, Cartmel settled down first scoring nine. In the second, Jets started to settle scoring eight with the help of Danica.

Cartmel kept the pressure on, also scoring eight. In the third innings the warm weather started to take its toll and the Jets struggled with their batting and with fine fielding by Cartmel could only manage to score three runs.

Cartmel managed to score nine. The final score was Cartmel 26 Runcorn Jets 18.
