THE LINNETS have named their latest transfer target - local head teacher Hedley Edwards.

Mr Edwards has been approached to become a director of the football club.

"We are delighted that Hedley has agreed to join the board and look forward to working with him," said chairman Dr Robertson, who hopes to rubber stamp the move at the club's forthcoming AGM.

Hedley's remit will be to help the club launch its Football in the Community project which involves initiatives such as organising half time penalty shoot-outs for youngsters under 12.

"It is most important this season that the club works hard to promote its community initiatives," said club secretary Debbie Quaile. "Runcorn FC Halton has been a well kept secret for far too long."

The club will be continuing its ball boy scheme this season and any junior or school sides wishing to take part should call 07970-175652.

The mascot scheme will also continue and nominations can again be made by phone or over the Internet.

The club will continue to allow u14s into games for free if accompanied by an adult and will be running various promotional schemes throughout the season to encourage youngsters to come to games.

Mr Edwards will also have a fundraising role, which he did very successfully last year.

The club promoted its Harley Davidson competition at Spikeybike on Sunday and supporters also gave up their time to help promote the Linnets at Sunday's Widnes Vikings game.

"It was great to see our younger supporters so willing to help and for them to be so aware of the importance of fundraising and promoting the club," said Debbie.

Runcorn FC Halton would like to thank Halton Council for again being the club and shirt sponsor and to R&L Motors for being the match day executive box sponsor for this season.

Further thanks should go to Runcorn Football supporters club who have kindly agreed to sponsor the match ball for all 22 league games.

The club recently had a meeting with Mond Rangers to discuss ways in which the two clubs could work together. The club is also hoping to develop links with junior and adult teams in Halton.
