A HELICOPTER landed in Helsby last week and many people may have seen their faces on television.

Granada Television crews descended on Helsby Sports and Social Club on Thursday as part of a televised charity event.

The social club and Helsby Rugby Club got involved in Granada's 'Care in the Air' appeal and members have been encouraging other clubs, organisations and businesses to get involved and raise money.

Chris Johnson, of Helsby Rugby Club, said: "Granada approached us to ask if we would host it and we agreed to get involved. It is also a cracking opportunity for us and put us on the map.

"It is a great boost for the rugby and social club and allows people to see us and what we have to offer."

Granada reporter Paul Crone is walking 260 miles across the region collecting money and broadcasts live each night from a new location.

Many businesses and individuals went along in the afternoon to give their donations and some people including those from Helsby Tuesday Club, The Rotary Club of Frodsham and Helsby, Alvanley Village Hall and Frodsham and Helsby Inner Wheel Club appeared live on television.

Set to benefit from the appeal are North Wales Air Ambulance and the North Wales Air Ambulance.

Hundreds of people flocked to the sports field to see an air ambulance when it came in to land at 5pm and the event went live at 6pm.
