FRUITS, vegetables and flowers will be taking centre stage this weekend in a show that is more than 40 years old.

The Middlewich and District Show Society is holding its annual show on Saturday and current records go back to 1965.

John Carver, show secretary and who recently won an award at the Royal Horticultural Show at Tatton Park, said: "We want as many people to come along to the show and get their entries in as it just won't happen without them.

"We want a good show, good weather and lots of fun.

"Also we want the younger generation to get involved and submit entries as it is they who are going to help the show carry on for many years more."

Members are hoping to build on the success they have experienced since reviving the show in 2001.

There will be the usual favourite categories such as garden news top tray class, roses and the longest runner bean.

Youngsters can show off their talents in the children's categories.

In response to suggestions from the public there are three new categories for people to get involved in, wine and beer making, photography and handicrafts.

Rules

There are also some rules and regulations to be followed including all exhibitors must provide their own stands and dishes to properly stage their entries.

Middlewich Town Mayor, Clr Alison Roylance-White will be presenting the prizes.

The show is being held in Middlewich Civic Hall, exhibits must be staged between 9am and 11.30am and it will be open to the public from 2pm.

Entry forms need to be in by today, Wednesday, August 27, and are available from J Carver, show secretary on 01606 833478, Mike Groves, assistant show secretary, on 01606 836793 and society secretary Mary Buckles on 01606 836435.
