The Linnets continued to play the outstanding football, which has been a feature of the season so far.

Lancaster too were positive and the game was certainly very entertaining and competitive as both teams looked for the opening goal.

It was Runcorn FC Halton who got the breakthrough after 35 minutes when Leadbetter unleashed a stunning strike from the left edge of the penalty area and the ball rocketed into the net off the inside of the post.

The Linnets defence were in fine form and Lancaster were restricted to just one opportunity in the first half.

Although Lancaster set about retrieving the game in the second half it was Linnet who always seemed the most likely to add to their one goal advantage with the outstanding young Matty McGinn always prominent in attack.

Chris Lightfoot twice put headers just wide of the target before Leadbetter had a chance to seal the game 10 minutes from time.

The win followed on from a 2-1 defeat at home at the hands of Bradford Park Avenue.

Two efforts from Simon Collins gave visitors an unlikely victory leaving Runcorn FC Halton to contemplate their missed chances.

Bradford started the game well and scored after just seven minutes when midfielder Collins took advantage of some poor marking in the Linnets defence to score from close range

Runcorn FC Halton completely dominated the game with Bradford rarely able to venture outside their own half.

The equaliser finally came after 35 minutes through Daly.

A Matty McNeil header found the exciting Daly in the penalty area and the young striker sidestepped a defensive challenge before dispatching the ball passed keeper Matthew Boswell into the net.

With Dominic Morley and Chris Price dominating the midfield, Linnets were playing some of their best football of the season but were unable to take advantage of the opportunities created.

In the second half, on one of Bradford's rare sorties forward they were awarded a penalty when Stephen Oleksewycz was fouled by Mike Harris and Collins obliged with the spot kick.

Although the home side fought until the end they could not find the second equaliser but must be wondering how they could play so well and not win the game.

Runcorn FC Halton 2 Droylsden 2

In the game before that, it was a spectacular strike from Darren Wright who saved a point for Droylsden in a game which ended 2-2.

The home side took the lead after 40 minutes. Daly had a clear run on goal but was fouled by keeper Phillips. Lightfoot scored from the spot.

In the second half, when the defence failed to clear a Droylsden corner, former Runcorn FC Halton player Garry Burke headed the ball into the net.

Two minutes later Daly restored the home side's advantage with his first goal for the club.

A fine pass from Steve Carragher found Daly in space and the young striker rifled the ball into the net. The lead lasted just three minutes when a speculative effort from Wright from the edge of the area flew over Tony McMillan into the Runcorn FC Halton net.

The next game is Worksop v Runcorn FC Halton, Saturday, August 30, kick off 3pm and the next home game is against Radcliffe on Tuesday, September 2, kick off 7.45pm.
