CHILDREN in Newton enjoyed a taste of the continent last week when they enrolled at the community centre for a multicultural workshop.

Joined by a selection of special guests, including Ravi and Asha Menta, who represented the Hindu Temple in Liverpool, the children took the opportunity to try different cultures clothes, food and customs.

Dave Ward and Love Sacha Phiri, both from the Windows project, which operates across Merseyside, joined the activities to share some traditional African stories accompanied by music.

Anne Keen, manager of the centre, said: "It was an attempt to raise awareness of different cultures. The event was a big success."

Details about more activities are online at www.newtoncommunitycentre.co.uk.

The after-school club begins again on September 11 every Thursday from 4pm until 6pm.
