ORGANISERS of Crewe Kings' recent revival are hoping to see even more local support as they return to the speedway track, next Sunday.

This month saw the team make their first appearance in almost 30 years as they took part in the first of three junior challenge matches against Buxton at High Edge.

Ever since it all ended at Boston in 1975, Kings' strong following has lived on and recently held reunions have revitalised feelings.

An application to BSPA proved successful and Buxton Juniors were pleased to split into two factions - one taking on the Crewe Kings colours to introduce competitive racing.

Team manager Kev Tew was delighted to see them back on track.

"It's all about starting up the interest of Crewe Kings again," he said.

"We had a brilliant response to the first meeting. People were coming up to us and saying it was great to see us back on the track.

"Hopefully if it's successful we'll be able to see more teams compete under the Kings name.

"You never know along with High Edge, we may see a team appearing at Belle Vue to challenge it's younger teams."

Last time out they put up a spirited display in a 20-16 defeat, Lee Derbyshire taking 9 points, Andrew Jackson 5, Richard Walsh 2 and Greg Walsh 0.

"The lads did us proud," added Kev.

"If there are any people who were Kings supporters and would like to see a team compete under the Crewe name, come along and support the lads at High Edge.
