CREWE FC boss Ian O'Reilly believes his side will do alright this season after an improved showing at Rylands.

The Mid Cheshire Division One outfit put their opening day 4-2 defeat to Linotype behind them with a 0-0 draw when they played at their infamous bogey side, last Saturday.

It was the performance that counted and on the back of an excellent one against a strong Alex reserve side during midweek, O'Reilly is happy with his squad.

He commented: "We did well at Rylands. In all honesty we outplayed them.

"Steve Parker missed a penalty and obviously it was crucial in the end but we had enough chances to wrap the game up."

Liam O'Reilly, Dave Hanson and Steve Harding were all late withdrawals, the latter handing Danny Reed his full debut between the sticks.

"Three out so late was a blow but we still managed to field what we would call a strong side so that's pleasing," he continued.

"Danny made a fine save and did what he had to do well.

"It was a clean sheet and we were happy with that after conceding four the week before.

"I'm not making any predications but we'll do alright this season."

Lee Bell netted five minutes from time to seal a victory for the Alex, last Wednesday, and O'Reilly wasn't the only one impressed.

"Dario said he was very pleased with the game and would be happy to work with us in the future," added O'Reilly.

"He was very complimentary so that's good for Crewe FC."

Crewe FC entertain Crosfields at the Cumberland Stadium on Saturday.
