YOUNGSTERS are being warned of the dangers of railway trespass with the newly electrified line between Crewe and Kidsgrove now live.

Part of the mutli-billion modernisation of the West Coast Main Line, the £30 million project has seen more than 400 stanchions and miles of wiring installed from Crewe to Kidsgrove, which will allow the new Pendolino trains and other electrified traffic to be diverted along this route.

Network Rail has been liasing with the local community to make them aware of the danger that the new overhead line equipment brings to those trespassing on the railway.

More than 80 schools have already received a special 'Get Wise' educational pack and local residents and businesses have been informed.

Head of communications for the West Coast, Nigel Barber said:

"The railway is a dangerous place for those who trespass on it, but now on the Crewe to Kidsgrove route there is the added danger of electrocution from the new overhead lines.

"The message to everyone is stay away from the railway lines and we would ask anyone who sees trespassers to call the 24hr British Transport Police hotline on 0800 405040."
