THE Forestry Commission is offering a host of events to herald the onset of autumn at Delamere Forest Park.

Moth Magic takes place on Saturday, September 6, starting at 8pm, when there is the opportunity to join moth expert Shane Farrell for an evening with these colourful creatures and learn more about their lifestyles and how they escape from their hunters.

Vale Royal Festival of Walking takes place between Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 14.

You are invited to polish your walking boots and head for Delamere Forest and the surrounding countryside for a programme of walks throughout the week. For more details call Jo Danson on 0151 327 2084.

Two fungal forays takes place on Sundays, October 5 and October 19 between 1pm and 3pm when there is the opportunity to join Paul Lunt, senior ecology lecturer at Staffordshire University for a search through the woods for the many fungi of forests.

Learn which are poisonous, which can be eaten and how fungi have been used for potions, lotions and foods over the centuries.

These events are for adults only and cost £3 per person.

Owl Hoot takes place on Thursdays, October 9 and October 27 between 7pm and 9pm when you can get to know more about the nocturnal habits of the owls, which inhabit Delamere Forest.

On Sunday, October 12, from 10am to 4pm a seed gathering session takes place.

There is the opportunity to gather seeds that have fallen from the trees to the forest floor, then put them in the soil to germinate, ready for planting out next year.
