UNITED Utilities has told the Guardian that holes in two roads in Howley are there to allow the company to check the condition of the water supply.
Around five small holes have been dug in the area of Parr Street and Fairclough Avenue.
Once the condition of the mains supply has been assessed improvements will be carried out by the company.
