WITH reference to St Helens to be Gtr Liverpool, after reading some of the letters (Dear Star, August 14) I feel I have to share something with the people of St Helens. My grandfather was born in Liverpool in 1913. His birth certificate states that Liverpool was at that time part of Lancashire. My mum was born in Huyton, Knowsley in 1958 my aunt before in 1956. This too was Lancashire. I was born in Whiston, Knowsley 1977 though the county by then had changed to Merseyside. My dad is from Parr, one of the four parishes that make up St Helens. My boyfriend works for Royal Mail so I asked him what county Liverpool and St Helens (Wigan, Bolton etc) was in before Merseyside existed, he answered Lancashire. (Wigan, Bolton now Gtr Manchester).

So Liverpudlians were/are also Lancastrians. Small town mentality yet again. People should accept there are good and bad everywhere. Not judge a whole place by one or two wrongs. I am neither for or against the change as I know my vast heritage and that's all that counts.
