A LONG-standing charity that helps with fundraising ideas and events for a wide range of worthy causes is in danger of folding if more volunteers don't come forward.

Westbrook Lions has raised thousands of pounds for young and old over the past 14 years but with less than half the required number of members, the club is desperately searching for new blood.

The district club's existing eight members cover the Westbrook area including Callands and Old Hall and also go out to Whittle Hall, Great Sankey and Penketh.

They meet twice a month at the Royal British Legion, on Greystone Road in Penketh, and would like to hear from around a dozen new campaigners willing to help others with money-spinning events across the borough.

John Vandusen, who has been a member for four years and is in his second year as president of the club, said: "Other Lions groups in Warrington, like Birchwood and Culcheth, seem to be booming but Westbrook Lions is really struggling to recruit new people.

"We're looking for both men and women to come along and help out with fundraising and collecting for local charities.

"We help anyone who is on a fundraising drive or operation rally by organising special events."

Westbrook Lions has raised money to help with redecorating youth clubs in the area as well as providing new kits for junior football teams following successful social evenings and car boot sales.

Members meet at 8pm on the first and third Monday of every month to share ideas and organise up and coming events.
