A LIFE on the ocean wave, aboard a 60-metre-high brig, is beckoning for two former Birchwood High School pupils.
Next month Vicki Fleming and Andrew Dean Young will be helping to crew the Stavros S Niarchos from Cardiff to London, as part of an adventure training course offered by the Tall Ships Youth Trust.
The 16-year-olds were nominated by the high school's business partner, HSBC. During the journey they will take the ship's helm, keep watch, learn basic navigation skills and ascend the masts.
Presently Vicki, of Pheasant Close, Oakwood, is working with the careers service, hoping to become a youth worker, and Andrew, who now lives in Rotherham, is a student at a Sheffield sixth form college.
