Warrington u19s 16

Widnes u19s 42

WARRINGTON'S hopes of finishing the Junior Academy Division One season in top spot were dashed by Widnes Vikings.

The Vikings were by far the better team in the final league game of the season and their cause was helped by an 11-1 penalty count in their favour.

Widnes led 18-0 until the 37th minute when Matthew Bryers bagged a try for the Wolves with Steve Sutcliffe adding the conversion.

Wolves then conceded a further four points before enjoying their best spell of the game after half-time.

David Pennington scored an unconverted try on 50 minutes. Four minutes later, under 16s player Chris Hall scored a superb solo try to which Sutcliffe tagged on the extras.

The two touch downs left Wolves only six points adrift of their near neighbours but Widnes then kicked on a gear.

They dominated the play and wrapped up victory with three tries, two conversions and two penalty goals.
