ENERGY efficiency in Warrington is improving thanks to schemes like the town's training and advice centre.

Figures released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs show a 10 per cent improvement from 1996-2002.

Warrington falls in the top half of the table of the 43 local authorities in the north west, with Chester leading with an improvement of just over 23 per cent.

Schemes in place to promote energy efficiency include Padgate-based Energy House 21, in Manchester Road, where visitors can watch interactive displays and get information from staff.

John Earle, assistant director of planning, said: "Where appropriate, members of the public will be steered towards the Government-funded energy efficiency scheme."
