A CAR was stolen from a supermarket's petrol station forecourt - while the owner was putting air in the tyres!

Police say the theft happened at about 5pm on Friday, August 15, at Asda on Kirkland Street.

They revealed it is the latest in a series of car thefts that have happened recently in St Helens while cars have been left unattended for a short spells.

Warnings are now being fired out to motorists. A police statement read: "Police advise drivers to always remove keys from the ignition and to lock the car even when they are only leaving the vehicle unattended for a short period of time.

"Drivers paying for petrol or stopping at bottle banks are especially advised to take care."
