CELEBRITIES from the worlds of television, sport and showbusiness will be teeing off at a charity golf competition next weekend.

The Howard Keel Golf Classic at the Mere Golf and Country Club has been held annually for the past 17 years and is aimed at raising money for the NSPCC.

Famous names waiting to join the fundraising drive include Coronation Street actors William Roache and Johnny Briggs, and top comedians Tommy Cannon and Jasper Carrott.

The event takes place on Sunday, September 7, and there will be 30 teams taking part.
