GENEROUS fundraisers in Warrington have been digging deep in the hope of boosting a television appeal for air ambulances in the north west.

Granada TV reporter Paul Crone is in the middle of a 260-mile walk across the region and his journey took him to Culcheth.

The intrepid explorer of villages in the north west is collecting money for the Care in the Air Appeal and, thanks to donations and fundraising efforts, he has already scooped £110,000.

People in Culcheth believe they managed to collect around £4,500 and Paul met them after his 18-mile trek from Rainford on Wednesday last week.

John Clifton, vice chairman of Culcheth Sports and Social Club, said: "Around 100 people met Paul when he arrived at 4pm.

"He was suffering from a swollen knee so we had to find some ice for him and he sat with his feet in a bucket of cold water for 45 minutes."

Paul will be visiting Appleton Thorn village hall tomorrow, Friday, at 4pm with the accompanying ambulance landing at 5pm.
