THE Warrington Guardian is holding an open day at the Academy next month as part of its 150th birthday celebrations.

And all funds raised throughout the evening on Thursday, September 18, will go towards the Guardian's chosen charity Warrington Deaf Centre.

The invitation-only event is for friends and family of Guardian staff customers and special guests. There will be opportunities to learn how pages are set up and how websites are created as well as the chance to find out what life is like at the offices on Bridge Street.

Competitions like 'count the sweets in a jar', a penalty shoot-out and a tombola will collect funds for the deaf centre's appeal.

Other events aimed at boosting the centre's building fund include a Virgin Vie cosmetics night from 8pm on Friday, September 26 and tickets are available for £2.

And the promises auction, where volunteers can offer to wash up, mow the lawn or make a cup of tea for successful bidders, has its own auctioneer but still needs a venue.

Anybody who like to volunteer for the auction or has any fundraising ideas is asked to call the Warrington Deaf Centre on 634 640 or contact Guardian reporter Paul Keaveny on 434119.
