POLE tactics worked a treat for 14-year-old Daniel Boyle in Warrington Anglers' Association's NatWest Young Angler competition staged at Ackers Pit, Stockton Heath.

Daniel, of Grappenhall, hauled in more than 100 fish for a total of 12lbs 7ozs 1drm, which earned him first place in the under 16s section and overall.

The Lymm High School pupil's catch in the four-hour match was mainly made up of roach to lb plus one skimmer and one perch.

Daniel, who had finished third in the Sherratt Cup on the Bridgewater Canal earlier in the season, won a rod and £10.

Chris Francis finished second and Richard Lenihan was third.
