STEVE Daley and John Tymon are witnesses to the fact that Lymm Angling Club's River Bollin has been fishing its socks off.

Steve reeled in almost 100 fish in a single season this week. The catch was made up of dace, chub, perch to 1lbs, roach, gudgeon and hybrids.

John's haul of fish contained the same species range but included large chub. John has also reported seeing some nice barbel in unfishable swims while he and Steve have both emphasised the need to travel light.

New Pool has returned to form following its recent algae bloom. I have had numerous reports of good catches with the inhabitant species, including catfish, all making their presence felt.

On the adjacent Spring Pool, action has slowed a little with the often targeted silver orfe difficult to catch.

Nevertheless, sport on maggots has remained good with a bite a chuck from golden rudd, roach and perch while a few golden tench have also been showing.

Club chairman Lew Poulson cannot get enough of Whitley Pool. That is hardly surprising as it has been producing some nice fish, including big carp.

Uncoloured goldfish, which are often confused with crucien carp or small common carp, are now up to 4lbs in weight and have been producing steady catches along with carp and tench.

Anglers should note that unlike carp species, uncoloured goldfish do not have barbules on their mouths.

Lymm Dam is another water that has continued its excellent form.

On Friday, Sue Jupp witnessed a young boy of approximately six-years-old catching an abundance of fish under the supervision of his father. The fish were only small but the joy on the face of that little boy made Sue's trip worthwhile.

Members are reminded that night fishing ceases on Tabley Moat at midnight on Sunday.

While night fishing is only restricted to June, July and August, it was a difficult concession to negotiate so anglers are urged not to jeopardise this facility by not adhering to the restriction.

Bailiff night patrols will continue to visit the water to oversee and protect the rights of all our members.

The Tabley Mere boat can be booked by contacting Mike Church on 01614 566540. Members using this facility must provide, and wear, their own adequate life jackets.

I can be contacted on 411774.
