Warr Wool Rvrs 24

St. Albans 10

WARRINGTON Woolston Rovers are one step away from the National League Three Grand Final after putting St. Albans Centurians to the sword at Wilderspool Stadium.

Rovers' defence was superb throughout and they packed a big enough punch in attack to run out comfortable winners in Sunday's elimination play-off.

They now face an away game against Bradford Dudley Hill on Saturday. Victory there will earn Rovers the right to play Teesside Steelers in the Grand Final at Winnington Park Rugby Union Club in Northwich on September 14.

Both teams will provide daunting opposition but Rovers will fancy their chances of going all of the way.

They are in fine form and they made light work of St. Albans on Sunday.

Rovers took the lead when Dave Patterson stormed over for a try converted by Chris Mellor.

Liam Horrigan then sent Jon Cole through a gap to score in the corner and Rovers extended their lead after half-time when a fine break by Lee Rushton led to Mark Wallington scampering over.

Mellor tagged on the extras to gave Rovers a 16-0 advantage.

Iain Fowler was the next try scorer for Rovers. He touched down following good work by Dave Patterson and Dave Powlesland.

Powlesland was then sin-binned for interference and St. Albans made the most of their numerical advantage.

They reduced their arrears to 24-10 before man of the match Matt Patterson stormed over to secure victory for Rovers.
