My mum died when I was four years old so I don't remember anything about her. My dad sometimes finds it hard to talk about her, which I find unfair as I didn't get to know her, and I am interested to know what she was like.

As my 18th birthday is approaching I am starting to wonder whether she would be proud of me if she was alive, and what I have achieved in life as I am turning into a young woman.

Dear Hayley,

You must have heard people say you look like your mother, so look in the mirror. As I say this have you not felt someone next to you as you look in the mirror - like a proud parent is present?

Your dad must have loved your mum very much to find it difficult to talk about it, it must be even harder for him to look at you and not see her.

I don't feel it will change with him but you can do well with your life and know that your mum and your dad will always be there for you.
