BUFFALO Soldiers (15) comes to Knutsford Studio Cinema on Friday showing 8pm daily except Thursday and Monday.
The Miramax film is based on a 1993 novel by Robert O'Conner and follows the exploits of fictional Army Specialist Ray Elwood played by Joaquin Phoenix.
He supplants his heroin habit by selling Army weapons and supplies out of a German base prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall while evading senior officers.
Some veterans and people involved in the Buffalo Soldiers' history say the film and its title are disparaging to the service of the original soldiers. They served in mostly all-black Army units formed in 1866.
Despite the controversy it has been a hit worldwide since its release earlier this year.
Piglet's Big Movie (U) remains at the Toft Road cinema.

The gang, including Tigger and Piglet, try to find him in the 100-acre wood.
While they search his scrap book they discover just how big a part Piglet plays in their many adventures.
What A Girl Wants (PG) is showing at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.
