STAGESTRUCK enthusiasts now have a chance to tread the boards.

The search is on to find budding actors to join a new theatre group.

Drama professional, John Glennard, said: "It's a lot of fun, not at all high brow, but topical stories in a period setting with lots of song and dance."

John, of Runcorn, has been involved in Commedia dell'arte, a form of slapstick comedy, using masks and period dress, for 25 years.

His previous company, Gobbi, performed at venues around the country. His collection of leather masks, costumes and props will be available for use.

John will train members of the new company to write and perform their own work, make costumes and props and take productions on tour.

Improvisations, character interpretation, mask work, constructing a portable stage, marketing and securing books are just some of the many elements of the weekly workshops.

"Through performance skills, members will develop self awareness, self confidence and the ability to interact with and support each other," said John.

"The community will benefit by having live theatre that is truly community based."

The new theatre group will be based at Murdishaw community centre.

Adults interested can call John on 01928-713341 or Jo Philips at the centre on 01928-718285.
