TOFT CC all but secured promotion with a solid if unspectacular victory against Tattenhall.
Put in to bat they failed to make their customary good start with the openers failing and the middle order was needed to rescue the innings.
Experienced Simon Burley and Mike Townsend, both of whom hit 30s, provided this.
Just as a respectable score appeared likely another flurry of wickets put Toft in real danger of a below par score.
In need of runs for batting points and also time at the crease to use up overs, up stepped the last pair of Ed Millson and young Ben Spanton.
They put on a vital unbeaten partnership of 34 to take Toft to the respectable total of 153.
Tattenhall started their innings well and their openers looked at ease on the difficult wicket.
Then Joe Leadbeater found his rhythm, having taken no wickets in his first three overs he promptly responded by taking a wicket in each of his next three, aided by a stunning catch from Ben Moody.
Farschi also chipped in with a wicket, but Tattenhall were scoring quickly enough to win the game.
On came the left arm bowlers McNicholl and Browning.
McNicholl took two wickets in an over and Browning mopped up the tail with three wickets in just three overs, the latter helped by more excellent catching.
This win leaves Toft on the very edge of promotion with just one game to go against promotion rivals Oulton Park on September 14.
