CONSISTENCY is the key to promotion for Nantwich Town, this season.
Player boss Nigel Gleghorn believes his side is good enough to challenge for the golden opportunity of elevation over the next nine months and was a relieved man to finally see glimpses in last week's 2-1 win over Salford City.
Strikers Wes Wilkinson and Jon Dawson were on target as the Dabbers banished a dismal start of three straight defeats with a top-notch performance.
However last Saturday's 1-1 draw at St Helens thanks to a Wilkinson penalty had him scratching his head again.
Gleghorn wants the Salford performance week in, week out.
"It's good that we're off the mark but I was disappointed at St Helens," he revealed.
"We created a lot of chances with really playing well and we didn't finish them off.
"We must have hit the post four or five times and we had good chances.
"You need to have that killer instinct to win leagues or promotion and one or two of my players need to find it.
"The win over Salford was an all round excellent display and you need that nine times out of ten to do well.
"At the moment it's about three out of ten and we need to find the desire to give consistent performances."
Saturday's game should be some test as Nantwich travel to league leaders Woodley Sports, one of three sides on maximum points having won all four.
"We've got a fully fit squad and were as good as them on their day," continued Gleghorn.
"We did the double over them last season so we'll go there looking for three points."
Clitheroe, Stone and then Congleton (10 points) complete the top four that is Gleghorn's targeted finish, the Dabbers are currently 13th in NWC Division One.
"I'm not surprised who is up there," he added.
"Clitheroe are a good side and Congleton looked the part last year.
"A lot of clubs are going for it this season.
"It's early days yet and it's who's there at the end that counts."
After Woodley, Nantwich have the chance to put it right against St Helens, visitors to Jackson Avenue on Tuesday, KO 7.45pm.
