Ian Kelly

I HAVE to admit that as a big fan of the Jackass TV series, I was a little apprehensive about watching the big screen version.

My fear was that they would try to do something different, moving away from the winning formula of mad, painful stunts and hidden camera gems that make this show so refreshingly funny.

Thankfully, I needn't have worried, because apart from rather contrived opening and closing sequences, this is basically just an extended episode of the programme, except that the cast can get away with being even more rude, crude and dangerous than ever!

And so we have Johnny Knoxville suffering for his art by being shot at and bitten, and also risking life and limb by renting a car, smashing it up, then taking it back to the rental company and claiming that he can't remember what happened to it because he was drunk!

We have Ryan Dunn sticking a toy car up his backside and going for a butt x-ray, we have Bam Margera waking up his long-suffering dad in the middle of the night by setting off fireworks in his bedroom, we have Chris Pontius doing his Party Boy routine in Japan, and then there is Steve-O pole vaulting into a polluted river.

But my favourite moment comes when Dave England goes into a bathroom store, drops his pants, and does a No.2 in a toilet in the middle of the showroom, much to the shop owner's disgust.

OK, so it's not sophisticated, but I defy anyone not to laugh out loud through most of the 85-minute running time.

And if that's not enough, then this special collector's edition has more than five hours of bonus material for you to wade through.

Juvenile but joyous.
