I WOULD like to reply to the assertions of Mr M Darbyshire (the prolific letter writing Warrington RLFC spin doctor), and Sean Mellor, the Wolves marketing manager, that the recent poster of the Wolves versus Widnes match was a joke, a bit of fun.
It was neither; it could bring the game of Rugby League into disrepute!
Where will it end? Could we see the poster for Warrington's next game with Widnes at the Halton Stadium depicting the methane gases oozing out of Warrington's landfill sites, drunks staggering down Bridge Street on a Friday night, and some poor soul getting his head kicked in outside a nightclub?
It reminded me of a little while back when Warrington played St Helens and 'Big Spender' was played over the tannoy (St Helen's were having salary cap problems with the RFL).
I then thought that this is a bit rich from a club which 'borrowed' (sic) £300,000 from the council taxpayers of Warrington, whether they supported Warrington, or agreed or not. Warrington on average at home games have around 6,000 spectators, a very small minority of council taxpayers.
Could the Warrington RLFC or Warrington Borough Council explain when, if ever, and how this loan will be repayed?
And this is no joke.
