A WESTBROOK councillor has slammed plans for another telecommunications mast along Cromwell Avenue.
Mobile phone company O2 wants to erect a 12.5-metre column with equipment on the east side of Cromwell Avenue and borough council planning chiefs have refused the plans.
But O2 is now appealing against the decision and Clr Peter Hamel is supporting residents of Shackleton Close and Ladywood Road who are totally opposed to the erection of another mast in Westbrook.
He said: "I understand why the applicant considers this location to be ideal but if this mast is allowed, it will join two others on the same stretch of road.
"One mast on its own does not have such a detrimental effect on the street scene, but three would be quite overbearing.
"This latest application is around 100 metres from an existing column and if it was granted, there would be three within half a mile.
"The feelings of hundreds of residents should surely be taken into account."
