NO further action will be taken against a Winwick parish councillor who was reported to the Standards Board for his involvement in a football club's campaign.
Clr Mark Hooper gave his support in July to Winwick Athletic Football Club's campaign to reduce rental fees for pitches at the village leisure centre.
But after writing a letter to the parish council asking for the fees to be reassessed, he was reported to the Standards Board, which regulates council procedure, for disregarding his collective responsibility over decision-making and bringing Winwick Parish Council into disrepute.
A letter to both Clr Hooper and the parish council said: "The board considered that the allegation was not sufficiently serious to warrant an investigation. The board would like to note that it does not normally investigate allegations of inaccuracies in political leaflets."
Members and managers of the 14 football teams under Winwick Athletic FC are hoping to present a petition, containing dozens of signatures, at the next meeting of the parish council at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 23.
