LAND-locked Warrington received a visit from crew members of HMS Turbulent - the town's very own nuclear submarine.
Commander Andy Coles visited the town with two members of the crew to tour not only the TS Obdurate, the home of the town's sea cadets, but also other parts of Warrington.
The crew raise money while on their long missions and toured Warrington to give some of the cash to needy parts of the town.
They first visited Warrington Hospital's children's ward where they presented a cheque for £400 and also went to the Warrington Islamic Association where they bought a music centre to be used by the youth club.
To round off their day, they went to TS Obdurate off Wilderspool Causeway on Old River Road, to host a prize giving.
The crew are keen to become more involved in Warrington and make links with the town that it is attached to.
The submarine has been attached to Warrington since 1984.
The 130-strong crew has recently returned from a 10 month tour of duty during the Iraq conflict, the longest in its history.
During the time off before their next two-month mission starting in the next few days, they fitted in time for a quick trip to Warrington.
Some crew members hope to come to the town for remembrance day in November.
