EDUCATION chiefs at Warrington Borough Council are celebrating after the LEA was praised as being an example of good practice by Ofsted inspectors.

The education watchdog selected good, satisfactory and poor local education authorities from its first round of inspections and Warrington was chosen for its quality of community leadership, the work of officers and councillors and its financial strategy.

The role of the council's scrutiny committees was also commended by the report, which said: "The council has devised an innovative political structure in order to improve the authority's work."

Clr David Keane, executive board member for education and lifelong learning, said: "It's fantastic news for all those involved and shows how successful we have been in raising our education standards in Warrington and promoting good educational practice.

"Warrington is proud of its outstanding commitment to education and it is wonderful to see it acknowledged and promoted as a good example to other LEAs."
