THE Stroke Association is encouraging people in Warrington to 'eat a rainbow' during Stroke Awareness Week this month.
This year's campaign, from September 29 to October 5, highlights the fact that by eating a rainbow of different coloured fruits and vegetables, it is possible to reduce the risk of a stroke.
The Department of Health recommends that adults and children eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
A spokesman for the Stroke Association said: "By increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables eaten by just one or two servings per day, it is possible to reduce the risk of stroke by 40 per cent."
Stroke is one of the UK's biggest killers and the single greatest cause of severe adult disability in the country.
During Stroke Awareness Week, the Stroke Association will be organising free blood pressure checks and stroke information stands.
