WARRINGTON Cricket Club will strengthen their survival case by beating rock bottom Heaton Mersey on Saturday.

With two games to go they are three points above the safety zone in Murray Smith Cheshire County League Division One following a string of impressive victories.

Warrington's latest success was a narrow win against fellow strugglers Brooklands.

They bowled the visitors out for only 141 runs thanks largely to the outstanding form of Neil Thompson. He finished with figures of six wickets for 18 runs while Lewis Nunn also made a valuable contribution.

He took three wickets but Warrington made the worst possible start in reply.

They lost openers M. Agar and D. Baxter for no score. S. Quick and A. O'Neill soon joined them to the pavilion as Brooklands moved firmly into the driving seat.

A fine partnership between James Hughes, 52 and Neil Thompson, 39, then steadied the ship but it was left to Simon Batey to steer the home side to victory.

He blasted a winning boundary with only two balls remaining to spark scenes of jubilation among the Warrington supporters.

Warrington Seconds found it tough going against Alderley Edge.

They had seven under 17s players in their side and they could only restrict Alderley to 214-4 despite venomous bowling from Greg Atkins.

In reply, Warrington made 134-6. Their best batsmen were T. Rothwell, 48 and A. Bray, 28.
