PARENTS are making last minute arrangements for their children to travel home from school tomorrow (Friday) as bus drivers go on strike.

Trish Foxall, from Thelwall, has two children, Marc, aged 14 and Samantha, aged 11, who travel to Lymm High School on the bus.

She said: "It is going to be a bit of a problem, especially if I am at work in the afternoon.

"I will probably have to sort something out with one of the other mums, but with it being such short notice it does not give me a lot of time to organise something.

"Sam has only just started at the school and you just want everything to run smoothly at the beginning of term so they can get into a routine."

And one parent with children at Culcheth and Birchwood High School, who did not wish to be named, said the short notice of the strike angered him.

He said: "There is a question of negligence on behalf of the strikers for putting the children in the position of not being able to get home. From my point of view, I don't know how they will get home and with the dark nights drawing in it is a worry if it drags on.

"It is particularly bad for parents of students who have just started and there is a great effort to reduce the amount of truancy - this won't help."

Staff at Warrington Borough Transport will walk out from noon tomorrow (Friday) until noon on Saturday.

The Guardian tried to get comments from affected schools but staff were busy settling into the new term, some still unaware the bus strikes were due.

Roger Lounds, headteacher at Lymm High School, said the strike was a disruption but the decision was beyond his control.

"We have put a note in asking parents to make alternative arrangements for the children. We bus a lot of children in and clearly this is a sensitive time when children are starting their education but these matters are beyond schools' control."

Others we contacted were: Penketh High School, Woolston High School, Padgate High School, Great Sankey High School, Birchwood High School, Culcheth High School, William Beamont High School.
