A FATHER-of-two, who was left clinging on to life following a brutal beating in Bewsey, has made a slight improvement, say police.

But detectives say that 22-year-old Christopher Shaw, who was set upon in Gerrard Avenue on July 31 and suffered serious head injuries, still remains seriously ill.

Eyewitnesses to the devastating attack, which occurred while Mr Shaw was walking home from the Cross Bar pub, are still being urged to come forward.

An appeal a fortnight ago produced a number of encouraging leads, says Det Sgt Pete Cash, of Warrington CID.

Unfortunately while the information received helped detectives to build up a clear background picture of Mr Shaw's movements, none could shed any light on the actual violence itself.

Det Sgt Cash said that the results of forensic tests were now being awaited before a decision was taken on whether charges would be made over the attack, which is being treated as attempted murder.

People who can help should contact Warrington CID on 01244 613833.

l A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, arrested in connection with the attack, remain on police bail.
