Crosfields 26
Hunslet Warriors 21
WAYNE Harris' first league game in charge of Crosfields Rugby League team turned out to be a successful one.
It did not look that way at half-time in the Arriva Trains Conference Division One clash with Hunslet Warriors at Hood Lane on Saturday.
Soap were trailing 15-4 with only a try by man of the match stand off Jimmy Williams to show for their efforts.
But second half teamwork secured the victory.
Crosfields started brightly after the break and registered a try on 45 minutes after a good combination between John Bannon, Russ Parkman and Danny Hoyland. Williams converted to put Crosfields back in the game at 15-10.
Crosfields looked more dangerous as the game continued and panic was beginning to set into the Hunslet defence.
Too many penalties for holding down saw Hunslet's Canning despatched to the sin bin.
From the resulting set of six, Crosfields stretched the visitors' defence and Mike Redmond crashed on to a Dave Gibbons ball for a try, which reduced the deficit to one point.
Rouse's objections to the referee led to him being sent off. Williams was wide with the conversion but Crosfields were on a roll.
Gibbons raced clear for a converted try, which gave Crosfields the lead for the first time.
Russ Parkman raced over from half way, brushing aside three players, before rounding the full back to score. Williams converted to secure the game.
A late try was conceded after a mix up trying to defuse a bomb but Crosfields held on.
Crosfields' next fixture is on September 13 at home to Wath Brow, kick-off 2.30pm.
