RIXTON Claypits produced a personal best mirror carp for Warrington Anglers' Association member Derek Hayes this week.

The fish weighed in at 25lbs 2ozs 0drms. It fell for halibut flavoured pellet and was tamed on 10lbs line and 2 test curve rod.

The fishery is better known for its prolific tench action. Dave Simpson showed why by taking a massive haul of 43 tinkers to 4lbs using sweetcorn.

Ian Clutterbuck targeted bigger specimens using boilie and had tench of 6-1-0 and 8-3-0, topped by a monster of 9-6-0.

Mike Timpson has reported enjoying good sport at Grey Mist Mere. He caught mirrors of 17-12-0, 18-2-0, 23-12-0 and 25-12-0 while Brian Sumner fished pole and caster for an estimated 40lbs mixed catch of roach to 1lbs and tench to 3lbs.

The water levels at the Bridgewater Canal have been very low due to vandals opening sluices at the Pomona Dock in Manchester.

The water will take a while to return to normal but the good news is that sport does not seem to have been affected. Plenty of roach and skimmers have been caught along its length and I have had reports of tench to 5lbs from Waters Meet on worm and caster.

Helen and Derek Robinson visited Cicily Mill Pool on Sunday and had a cracking catch of tench, cruciens and bream on maggot and corn. They used waggler and quiver tip methods with the biggest tench being taken by Helen on the latter. Corn accounted for the specimen which weighed in at 8-6-0.

Ackers Pit is a mecca for our junior members because it is a safe place to go and it is full of fish. Karl Slater, aged 11, fished running line tactics and paste to take mirror carps of 7-8-0, 7-11-0, a grass carp of 8-6-0 and seven bream.

The boat traffic has slowed down on the Macclesfield Canal due to the cooler weather.

Member Simon Greaves took full advantage of this. Fishing pole and caster at our Watery Lane stretch, he had roach to 1lb, small tench and plenty of massive gudgeon which 'fight like lions'.
