WARRINGTON Rowing Club members made a big splash in the North of England Sprint Championships which were held at Hollingworth Lake in Rochdale.

They won four events between them with Lymm ace Nick Halford prominent in three of the boats.

He joined forces with Neil Shaw to triumph in the men's senior double sculls event.

He then changed boats to win the novice fours competition alongside Laurence Edge, Matt Veasy, Richard Smith and cox Alasdair Edge.

Seven other crews were competing in the race and Warrington's comprehensive victory ensured their promotion to the senior ranks.

Halford went solo in his final race of the day, winning the single scull event with ease.

Graham Atherton and Stuart Shaw then followed Halford's lead. They left crews from Northwich and Trafford trailing in their wake to take the men's novice double sculls title.
