THE majority of plastic recycling champions in Warrington are over the age of 40, a survey has revealed.
Plastics recycling firm Recoup, which carried out the survey, is encouraging people of all ages to get involved in the town's plastic bottle recycling push.
More than one million bottles have been recycled at banks across town since the scheme began in June last year, and participation has risen by 30 per cent.
The banks are fitted with special compaction mechanisms, which means more bottles can now fit into them.
Stuart Foster, project manager, said: "The scheme has been a great success so far, with the people of Warrington making good use of the facilities.
"The recent research has however highlighted that younger members of the community could be recycling more.
"We would really like to see everyone in Warrington recycling their plastic bottles at the 10 sites and using the foot pedal so we can fit more bottles in the banks."
The scheme was launched by Warrington Borough Council and Recoup in a bid to help the environment, free spaces in regular bins and reduce the amount of material being sent to landfill.
l The recycling sites are located at ASDA Westbrook, Sainsbury's in Church Street, Woolston Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in New Cut Lane, Insall Road Shopping Centre in Padgate, car park number five in Birchwood Shopping Centre, Davies Way Car Park in Brookfield Road, Lymm, Forge Car Park in Forge Precinct, Stockton Heath, Sandy Lane HWRC in Stockton Heath and Gateworth HWRC in Barnard Street.
