IN the St Helens Star Premier Division, York were confident on Saturday that they could stop this incredible Penlake scoring machine, but things did not quite work out that way, although Paul Thompson did score the first goal Penlake had conceded so far. Penlake went on to slam York 1-8 at Ecclesfield.

Also at Ecclesfield, Eccleston United, with goals from Ian Hughes, Chris Riley and Steve Menarry outgunned Rainford North End 3-0.

Although Andy Eaton got on the scoring sheet for Sidac Social, they were no match for Billinge, whose 5-1 away win was very impressive.

Stars FC also were in top form, a 3-1 away success at Clock Face Miners Welfare (Lee Hollinghurst) being no fluke.

Jamie Taylor and Gary Moore were on target for Child who had to work hard to overtake Grosvenor Park 2-1 while Old Congs (Darren Howard, Keith Barker) shared the spoils 2-2 with Windle Labour at Common Road.

The Allfast Division One only featured three fixtures, due to the Council pitch problem, and among these was a 3-1 home win for Globe, Alan Cottington (2) and Andy Travis over Prescot Leisure Reserves.

The other Prescot based outfit alongside Child, i.e. Carrs Hotel, outscored Bull and Dog to win 5-2 thanks to goals from Lee Toole (2), Jas Taylor (2) and Ian Baxendale.

Market Place got their act together and had no trouble in outscoring Gerard Arms with an 8-2 home win.

Dave Morgan helped himself to five with Peter Yates, Martin Leyland and Mark Pickavance providing the rest.

In the Hatton Travel Division Two, Rainford North End Res got off the mark with a home 4-1 defeat of Grove United.

But the Carborundum Eagles did not fare as well, a Dave Coldwell goal for them not being enough to cancel out the four from Les Thornton, Lee Calland (2) and Dan Cardwell for new club Lingley in a 1-4 win. Roundhouse Dean Abbott and Kevin Toole scoring just edged out Market Place Reserves 2-1.

The young New Street Community Centre lads were 3-0 up after 10 minutes against the Billinge Colts outfit but could not keep up the pace and sadly went down 3-6 to the Billinge side.

John Walsh hit both goals for Sony in a home 2-1 beating of Moss Bank.

Smithy Manor, having a lean time so far, could not hold the strong Orange House outfit who romped home 1-7 at Sutton Manor, goals by Mark Hamilton (2), Barry Kenyon (2), Dave Johnson, Jon Heaton and Dave Lyon doing the damage.
