MARK Rivers became Crewe's third summer signing after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal, last Friday.

And the 28-year-old is happy to be back home.

Rivers left for Norwich City in a £500,000 deal back in 2001 but after having the final year of his contract paid up by the Premiership new boys, the forward is here and determined to make it a memorable return.

Blissett, Newell and even Craig Hignett are among former players to endure less impressive second stints with the Alex.

However Rivo is still at his peak and eager to be the exception.

"I had no hesitation in signing," he explained.

"I trained with the lads last Tuesday, then played against Everton and they've all been great.

"I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

"The fans also gave me a really good reception and so I'm delighted about that.

"I've always stayed in touch with Neil (Baker) ever since I moved and when it was looking like I would be allowed to leave, he said I would be welcome back.

"It's going to be a challenge for me and it's just nice to be training and playing because it is something I haven't done for a while.

"The surroundings have changed and the training ground is very different.

"But the basics are still the same and Dario is still the same.

"Although it's strange to be back, it's good all the same."

Rivo started last season bang in form, netting four goals in his first seven games for the Canaries, only for an ankle injury to end his run.

After coming through his first 90 in months against Accrington, he'll be hoping for a similar start to this season.

"I started well last year until I got injured and I think it could have been my best season yet," he added.

"We'll never know and I guess it wasn't meant to be.

"But I'm only 28 and hopefully the best is yet to come from me."
