BILLED as the local derby, the game was played in tremendous spirit by two excellent, well-drilled sides.

In the early exchanges, the Moorfield engine room of Sam Brady, Patrick McMullin and Jack Armstrong made their intentions clear with some bone crunching tackles, winning the battle for midfield supremacy.

For much of the first half, the Farnworth side were camped deep in Moorfield territory, following some punishing running by the Farnworth forwards.

However, the blue and white wall held firm after some valiant efforts from Matty Broderick and Cavan Rice.

Once Moorfield gained possession, Farnworth struggled to cope with dynamic running of Matthew Bannerman (one try) and Adam Heyes.

Livewire Joe Lyons also crossed for a fine try following a cross-field burst.

Further tries followed from Sam Brady (two tries) and Jack Armstrong (one try).

Despite taking a number of bangs, Cavan Rice showed his mettle to hit back with two finely worked tries, on the back of some barnstorming runs from Patrick McMullin.

As the game wore on, the Farnworth side admirably stuck to the task and were rewarded with a try right on the corner flag.

This was despite some awesome tackling from Adam Heyes and Conner Fenlon.

The ever impressive Matty Broderick crossed for two further tries, the second after some excellent build up play from Adam Heyes and Cavan Rice.

Opposition man of the match was awarded to Sam Brady.

The big man worked tirelessly all game, contributing some excellent last-ditch tackles.

The DATS (Holdings) Ltd man of the match was awarded to Patrick McMullin.

In similar vein to his team mates Patrick put in an industrious performance in both attack and defence.

Farnworth struggled to handle his powerful running down both the left and right channels of the pitch.
