MIDDLEWICH Post Office is on the move this month and plans have been put in place to bridge the week-long gap between the relocation.

Post Office staff will serve their last customer in the One Stop store, in Wheelock Street, at 12.30pm on Wednesday, April 20, but the new office is set to open at Mistry Pharmacy, in Lewin Street, a week later.

During the intervening period, customers are advised to use Cledford Post Office in Warmingham Lane, Winsford Post Office in Dingle Walk, or Holmes Chapel Post Office in London Road.

Last May Tesco Express announced it was taking over the One Stop shop and admitted that keeping the post office was not part of its plans and Congleton borough councillor Pam Farrell campaigned relentlessly to keep the post office in the town.

But at Christmas the supermarket giant announced that Mr Raman Mistry had offered to save the post office.

A major refurbishment has been being carried out at the new premises to create a new interior with ramped access to the new post office, pharmacy and dispensary.

There will be four serving positions at the branch offering a range of products and services, including banking, foreign exchange, home and car insurance, and benefit payments in cash.

The new office opens on Wednesday, April 27 and opening hours will be from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday.
