PUBLIC fears have been eased following the arrest of a teenager after a number of street lights were 'snapped' in Winsford.
Concerns were raised that 13 concrete lampposts were destroyed by youths but there have been no further incidents since a youth was arrested last week.
Sgt Ian Wood of Winsford CAT said: "Our inquiries are continuing and someone has been arrested and is being interviewed."
John Roberts, community safety manager at Vale Royal Borough Council, hopes the spate of damage to lamp posts is now ending.
He said: "I'm not saying we have got the right person but since that arrest there have been no further arrests.
"It may just be that the message is getting through."
"We know from studies and from what people tell us that lighting has a significant affect on how safe people feel.
"If a light is damaged and not repaired quickly it can generate people's fears of crime."
Mr Roberts added: "We have an officer targeting this issue in one area and it seems to be making a difference.
"I hope the message has got round."
