THE second round of the Individual competition took place last Friday night with 32 players competing for the last four places with one player going through from each of four venues.

Those eventually winning through were Steve Roberts and Ian King (Tricorn), Ian White (Clarry B) and Phil Littler (Albion).

Playing at the Halfway House the first game saw Carl Hackney (Likely Lads) run out a 2/1 winner against Tony Anderton (Lion Doo Waps).

This was followed by a 2/0 win for Steve Roberts (Tricorn) against Nigel Peterson (Albion).

Steve's was helped by an 18-dart game.

The third game saw Rob Fish (Weston Point SC) account for Robbie Griffiths (Fiddlers III) 2/1 and the first rounds on this board were concluded with a 2/1 win for Royal Oak's John Glover against teammate Mike O'Dwyer.

In the first of the board semi finals Carl won the opening leg in 19 darts but then Steve produced two legs each of 19 darts.

Rob Fish then moved forward to the board final with a 2/1 win against John Glover with Rob hitting a 17-dart game in the process.

In the board final it was Steve who ran out the 2/0 winner over Rob with the assistance of an 18-dart game.

At the Old Transporter, Albion's Nick Hough won the opening game 2/0 against John Roberts (Lion Doo Waps) with Nick hitting a maximum.

Keith Worthington (Royal Oak) then gained a by in what should have been the second game.

Ian King (Tricorn) then produced a 2/1 win against Eamonn Hartigan (Albion).

Neil Connor (Halfway A) then beat Paul Lawrenson (Tricorn) 2/0.

In the first of the board's semi final it was Keith's turn to hit a maximum, which helped him to run out a 2/1 winner against Nick.

In the remaining semi final Ian ran out a 2/1 winner against Neil with Ian then going on to win the board final 2/0 against Keith, helped by a 19 dart game. Halfway A's Jim Reynolds hit a maximum but he lost the opening game 2/1 to Tricorn's Mal Smith at the War Memorial Club.

This was followed by a 2/0 victory for Derek Edwardson (Draymen) against Mark Chimes (Navvy).

Albion's Phil Littler then gained a bye into the board semi final leaving Brian McNamara (Tricorn) to beat Halfway A's Steve Massey 2/0.

In the first stage final Derek ran out a 2/1 winner against Mal with the latter hitting a maximum.

Despite hitting two maximums on the night, Brian McNamara lost his semi final game 2/1 to Phil Littler, the latter producing a 14-dart game.

Phil then progressed to the last four of the competition via a 2/0 win against Derek.

Unfortunately because of prior commitments only five out of the eight players were able to attend at the RNA Club and in the only first round game played their John Kilkenny (Albion) ran out a 2/0 winner against Mark Cantwell (Tricorn).

The first board semi final resulted in a 2/1 win for Tricorn's John Hillan against Barry O'Connor (Halfway A).

The second of the semi finals saw reigning champion Ian White (Clarry B) in great form, for he beat John Kilkenny 2/0 with a 14-dart leg, which included a maximum and then a 16 darter.

In the board final Ian ran out a 2/0 winner against John Hillan finishing with an 18-dart game, which included a 102 finish.

Last Thursday night saw the semi final of the Committee Section Challenge cup.

In section one the local derby at the Navigation resulted in Albion running out 5/4 winners against Navvy. Peter Murphy and Ian Darlington both hit maximums for Navvy whilst Nick Hough had a 17 dart game for Albion.

Albion will be joined in the final by Halfway A who beat Tranny Lads 5/4 with his team 4/3 down Halfway A's Karl Windisch pulled off a brilliant 144 finish (60, 60, 24) whilst earlier his teammate Karl Dand had hit a maximum.

The section two final will be between Royal Oak and Halton Marauders who ran out 5/4 and 7/2 winners against Union Tavern and Wanderers respectively, whilst Weston Point SC and Dev Superstars both won their section three semi finals 7/2 against Draymen and Grapes respectively.

Weston Point SC's win included a 14-dart game from Mike Bentley, this being the quickest game of the night.

Dev Superstars Tony Kell7y and Paul Tyndall had 18 and 19 dart games whilst for Grapes, John Horsefield finished in 18 and Paul Crowe produced a 130 finish.

Halfway Mixed who had a bye to the section four final will no face Quayside in the final after the latter beat The Burma 6/3.

This final will take place next Thursday night, April 14, along with the final of the Apec Taxis KO cup between Halfway A and Albion at the RNA Club.

Play will commence at 8pm with the order of play being drawn on the night.

Next Friday night once again at the RNA Club the section three final of the Committee Challenge cup between Royal Oak and Halton Marauders and the final of the Chairman's Challenge cup between Albion and Navvy will be staged.

Once again all four teams are reminded to be available for an 8pm start.

This Sunday the draws for the second rounds of both the Town Championship and Executive Competition will take place at the Navigation Inn at approximately 12.30pm.
